Hello,
My husband is a retired AF officer. According to Oregon tax law he can deduct the amount of service prior to Oct. 1991. I can't figure out how to add this to turbo tax. He served 100/328 months or 30.5% before Oct. 1991. This part of his retirement isn't taxable in OR. I tried hitting the edit button in the OR Federal Pension Summary, but nothing happens.
Please let me know how to enter this since last year I had to do the OR taxes by hand to not pay 30.5% of his pension.
Thanks,

OK, when you entered your Personal Info/My Info, did you indicate that you were an Oregon resident?
Next, when you entered the 1099-R for your military pension, there are several screens that follow. On of them asks for the source of this pension. Did you check "Federal government retirement benefits"?
Next, when you go to the Oregon interview, did you see the screen with the title "Review Federal Pension Benefits" and click Continue?
On the next screen ("Federal Pension Summary") did you click EDIT to add some information about your military pension?
When you clicked EDIT, did you enter the years of service (start-stop) or Points earned?
When you edit the pension, you will have to enter the dates and or the points earned before and after this date.
TurboTax will use the dates or the points (it uses the points if you enter both) to calculate the percentage of pension that is deductible in Oregon.
Did you do this and still have no deduction as an Other Subtractions? If so, what was the amount of the pension, the dates you entered and/or the points you entered?
NOTE: Oregon does not give a subtraction for federal/military pensions for service after October 1, 1991.
Oregon Instructions (page 67):
[Subtraction code 307]
You may be able to subtract some or all of your taxable federal pension included in federal income. This includes benefits paid to the retiree or the beneficiary. It doesn’t include disability payments if you haven’t attained the minimum retirement age. The subtraction amount is based on the number of months of federal service or points earned for retirement before and after October 1, 1991:
• If all of your months of federal service occurred or points were earned before October 1, 1991, subtract 100 percent of the taxable federal pension income you reported on your federal return.
• If you have no months of service or points earned before October 1, 1991, you can’t subtract any federal pension.
• If your service occurred or points were earned both before and after October 1, 1991, you will subtract a percentage of the taxable federal pension income you reported on your federal return.
"On the next screen ("Federal Pension Summary") did you click EDIT to add some information about your military pension?"
I didn't get an Edit button. I went out of the program and came back in and it finally gave me an edit button.
