Only your employer can provide you with your employer's state ID number (and explain why it's not on your W-2.). Good News though. Your e-file return will still go through just fine, as long as there are no other errors on your return.
We are in Illinois state and have not been able to send the e-file for tax return due to missing employer's state ID number on W2. We called employer and have been said they don't have a state ID and it should be fine without it. However, the turbo tax has asked for employer's state ID to complete e-file before sending it. What should we do to make our e-file works when my W2 missed employer's state ID number? Please help!
A state identification number in box 15 isn't required to file your tax return. However, TurboTax requires an entry to complete your preparation.
You can simply enter any number less than 14 digits as your employer's state ID number, since they won't provide it.
This will allow you to continue preparing your tax return.
