It is possible that your state tax is already reduced to zero by other credits or deductions and that may explain why the additional expenses are not adjusting the Illinois balance due or refund.
It can also be the case, if looking only at the refund meter, that some additional questions are required to be answered within the state program itself before final calculations can be performed that will adjust the balance due or refund amount.
After you have completed the state interview, you can check the state tax amount by following these steps:
- Login to TurboTax.com.
- In the menu on the left click on Tax Tools (you may first have to select Take me to my return or Continue where I left off)
- Click on Tools
- In the box that pops up, click on View Tax Summary
- Click on IL Tax Summary in the menu on the left
- Look at the line for Total Illinois Tax to see if it may already be $0
If this doesn't seem to explain what you're seeing, reply back and let us know and we can provide additional assistance troubleshooting.
