I am not sure if I need to file a TN tax return. I moved to TN mid 2018. Overall in 2018, I earned roughly $1600 in dividends and interest. However, $500 of this was earned while I was living in/a resident of my prior state. Only $1100 was earned from the date I moved to TN. Do I need to file a TN return?

Since you moved to Tennessee during the 2018 and your taxable interest and dividend income during your period of residency did not exceed $1,250 (or $2,500 if married, filing jointly) you are not required to file a Tennessee return.
Please view page 3 of the Tennessee link below for more information about filing requirements for part-year residents.
