Bonus Payments

I worked for a company from July 2020 - September 2021.

I lived and had residence in Florida July 2020 - April 2021.

I am still a resident of Florida but I recently relocated to CA.

The company is in Californa.

If I am paid a bonus in September 2021 for the work I completed July 2020 - June 2021, how are my state taxes calculated?

Do I have to pay CA state taxes on the whole bonus or just the portion for when I was living in CA?

Florida doesn't have state income tax.

When you file your CA tax return it will ask what dates you worked in California and calculate your tax payment based on that answer.

    Q. If I am paid a bonus in September 2021 for the work I completed July 2020 - June 2021, how are my state taxes calculated?

    A. The entire amount of the bonus is taxable in CA, because it was received while you were a CA resident, despite the fact that the bonus may have been related to earlier work.

That said, somethings are still not clear:

"I am still a resident of Florida but I recently "relocated" to CA". What does that mean?  Are you only temporarily living/working in CA with an intent to return to FL? Is there an end date to the temporary CA stay? Do you still have a FL home?

Are you a regular W-2 employee or a contract employee?

"I lived and had residence in Florida July 2020 - April 2021".  I assume you were working from home, in FL, for the CA company, during that time. Is that correct?
