amend a return

I e-filed my federal taxes but mail my state taxes.  I got an interest statement in and discovered a missed deduction after I efiled my federal and had to amend it.  However I had not mailed my state return yet.   Do I process the virginia amendment and send in both the original and the amended state return together or just send the amended version.  Not sure how to get this state situation properly into turbo tax.    It seems to be forcing me to amend the original return even though comments on the subject I am reading in turbo tax indicate if it wasn't mailed it should just be changed and not amended

amend a return

Yes,  send in the original and amended state return together with a note stating you missed the interest statement and deduction in the original return. Trying to change it in the original form may contaminate the information in your Turbo Tax program that could cause unneeded headaches.
