Allocate NY State Adjustments Part-Time Resident

In 2024, I was a part-year NYC resident (between September 2023 and February 2024).

When preparing the NY state I came to an "Allocate New York State Adjustments" page. The text says: "Because your residence changed during 2024 you must allocate your New York State adjustments of $644 based on the time you spent as a resident of New York City or Yonkers. Your New York State Adjustments below must equal $644." This number doesn't look familiar to me. Where can I find out how this number was calculated or what to do with it? I am not sure what other info I can provide to be helpful, so please let me know!

Allocate NY State Adjustments Part-Time Resident

Step 1 -Take a look at your tax forms.   Look for your IT 201 Line 18 income adjustment statement. To print or view  your forms, including all worksheets:

  • In desktop, switch to Forms Mode.
  • For online:
    1. On the left side, select  Tax Tools
    2. Select Print center
    3. Select Print, save or preview this year's return
    4. If you have not paid, select pay now.

Step 2 - Review your answers in the program

  1. You  must select part year city allocations - this allows you to adjust income
  2. Allocate federal adjustments to income - I think this is where you are - look at  your IT 201 Line 18 income adjustment statement and determine the portion related to NYC.
