Thank you. As a follow up to my previous question (answered today by DmarkM1 and TomD8) , if I specify the alimony as “non-MA” my MA refund becomes less and it asks for special explanation for why state amount is different than federal. But my question is if the alimony is not taxable why does my MA refund get reduced when I specify the alimony as “non- MA”. In another words if I DON’T specify the alimony as “non- MA” my refund is +$125 but if I DO specify it as “non-MA” my refund goes away and I end up owing $7. That is the only change I am making.
Shouldnt my refund increase if the alimony is non taxable in MA?
