Where did you live when you enlisted in the military?

"Your state of legal residency (SLR) is your "Home of Record," unless you changed it to another state. Changing the state on your paycheck records doesn't change your SLR.

To change the SLR, a DD Form 2058 must be submitted to your local finance officer and accepted.

From a tax standpoint, your State of Legal Residency (SLR) is considered your "domicile" or "resident" state as long as you are on active duty. Even if you are stationed in another state, you’re still considered a resident of your SLR."

Are you enlisted full-time in the military?  National Guard or Reserves?  Where did you go after basic training?

I think what you’re saying is that if he was active duty, which he is -because he just got into boot camp during the taxable year he should still use his domicile address? Correct?

Basic training went into the new tax year, is what this individual is saying. So it shouldn’t matter where he went after. Plus, military personnel shouldn’t have to share that info on a public forum.
Sometime in the following new year this individual most likely went to another station for additional training, so it really should matter. This person is just asking how to answer the question on turbo tax, “Where were you stationed?”

I’m not a tax expert, so don’t quote me.
Also, Thank you for your service, and God bless you. I’m sorry that this person answered with poor communication, I think what they were trying to say is that you would not answer the “Where were you stationed?” portion of the page, because your residence would still be considered your original home even though you were in another state for boot camp, at least that’s what I got from reading the forum.

I read another forum, and it was about a couple in Indiana, they used their home state as where they lived and the tax expert said to bypass this question use the home state and chose pcs, and that should clear any error to move on to the next page. @DaveF1006 gave a very helpful explantation
