I live in NY state and have a 529 Plan with my broker who tells me the state of the 529 account is Kansas. Can I deduct the amount I contributed to this account even though it is not a "NY State 529 Plan"? And does it matter that my daughter goes to school in New Jersey?

Unless you contributed to a New York 529 plan, you can't deduct your contributions to another state plan on your New York tax return.
