2021 Oregon Surplus (Kicker) Credit

Hello,

I don't think the Oregon surplus credit is calculating properly. I see my Oregon taxes, but they don't change when the credit is applied. How can I check the application Is calculating correctly?

2021 Oregon Surplus (Kicker) Credit

Please verify your eligibility and then preview your return. First to verify:

Form OR-40 Instructions, Oregon Individual Income Tax Return for Full-year Residents page 18, line 36, Kicker (Oregon surplus) credit states:

 

Eligibility. To be eligible for a kicker, you must:

1. File your 2020 Oregon return before you file your 2021 return.

2. Have an Oregon tax liability for 2020.

3. File a 2021 Oregon return, even if you don’t otherwise have a filing requirement.

 

In general, your kicker is a percentage of your total Oregon personal income tax liability for the prior year, as adjusted or amended. Your total personal income tax liability is your Oregon income tax before all payments or credits other than the credit for taxes paid to another state. For 2021, your kicker is 17.341 percent of your 2020 total Oregon personal income tax liability. 

 

Second, preview your return:

  • If you are using the online version:
    1. go to Tax Tools,
    2. then select Tools,
    3. select View Tax Summary,
    4. on the left side, select Preview My 1040.
  • In the desktop program, switch to forms mode.
