1099-nec Michigan Non-resident

I am working on my daughter's taxes. She worked in Michigan for 3 months as a freelance artist. She received a 1099-nec. She has a business for her work and files a business return. We included the 1099-NEC in her federal business income. Do I need to file a Michigan state tax return?

The state of Michigan requests that you file a Michigan state return if you file a federal return, so you should file one even if there is no tax due. You can read about it here, look for the caption Who must file a return on page 3:
