Question

2nd Business Profile

Can I make 2 business profiles when filing through Turbo Tax?  I am completing the info now for my 1099NEC, but also need to do a business for my husbands construction business

How to Add the Second Business in TurboTax

    1. Complete the first business: Go through the business setup process entirely for your 1099-NEC work, entering all relevant income and expenses.
    2. Navigate to the Business Summary: Once you finish your first business profile, TurboTax will bring you to a Business Summary page listing your current business.
    3. Add another business: Below your first business details, look for and click the "Add Another Business" or "Add a business" button.
    4. Assign the ownership correctly: When setting up your husband's construction business, TurboTax will explicitly ask who owns the business. Make sure to select your husband as the owner.

Is  your husband’s construction business filed as self employement on schedule C or a Single Member LLC or does he file a separate business return for it like a 1120 or 1065?

Where to enter self employment on Schedule C

When you start a Schedule C one of the first questions should be who is it for.
You should see a link on the screen (under the first business) that says Add Another Business.

Also about entering 1099NEC.   You can just enter the total as Other self employment income or as Cash or General income.  You don't need to get a 1099MISC, 1099NEC or 1099K.  Even if you did you can enter all your income as Cash.  Only the total goes to schedule C. You should be entering the income from your own records.
