Question

Why is VT requiring paper return this year?

I have filled Vermont taxes for over 20 years and I have never had to file a paper return. My tax situation has not changed. Why am I required to now? I don’t trust sending all of my personal information through snail mail.

    Please clarify your question.

    • Why do you think you have to file but mail.
    • I couldn't find anything on Vt Dept of Revenue that required that
    • Did your return get rejected?
    • If so, what was the message?

I filed my federal online back on 1/6/24. It would not let me finish my State taxes saying there were forms needing to be updated and I would get an email when ready. Never got the email but tried again over the weekend and it would not let me finish because I had direct deposit marked. The system then said “Cannot mark direct deposit when mailing in forms”. I did not request mail in nor will I ever so I have no idea what happened. I have already paid by credit card for federal and state to e-file. I refuse to mail them in.
