What is the "Allowable US Armed Forces Retirement Benefits" deduction?

Many states offer such tax benefits to current and retired military personnel.  Which state are you referring to?

North Carolina. I am 100% disabled, and my state does not tax my military retirement, yet turbo tax says I owe a lot of $. Other Income includes SS (with taxes paid monthly), disability (not taxed). Thats it. Am I missing something?

The NC return has 2 different places to enter military retirement depending on the situation. Your retirement should be showing on either line 19 or line 20. Please preview your state return. 

• If you are using the online version:
  1. Go to the state return and enter it
  2. go to Tax Tools,
  3. then select Tools,
  4. select View Tax Summary,
  5. you should see your state summary, if not, look on the left side and select it.
• In the desktop program, switch to forms mode.
