I transferred my 401k from one broker to another. I received a 1099 B from the first bank showing gains and adding them on the download as taxable income. Am I downloading wrong?

You can't get a 1099-B from a 401(k) plan. If you got a 1099-B, it was not a 401(k). If it was a 401(k), you would have gotten a 1099-R.
