There is a question in TurboTax that I don't know how to answer: "Was the distribution a return of your contribution to a Coverdell ESA?" It is under the 1099Q section.

Can someone help me decipher this question? It is for my daughter was has started taking distributions out of her ESA account to pay for her college tuition. Do I answer yes or no to this quesion?

There is a question in TurboTax that I don't know how to answer: "Was the distribution a return of your contribution to a Coverdell ESA?" It is under the 1099Q section.

If you put money in and took it right out then say yes ... otherwise say no.
