Line 12a on my w-2 shows $12200.00 under code DD. The Instructions for employees on the back of the w-2 it says this is not taxable. But it wasn't on my return.Why not?

That is a pretax item and was not included in the wages in box 1.  Or it's the amount the employer paid.  Either way it's not included as income anywhere so you don't need to deduct it.

To clarify, It was not taken off my taxable income.
