I'm doing my dad's taxes using TurboTax. He's well over 65. After entering all his information, his "Taxable income" is $4,900, however, TurboTax shows that he doesn't owe any tax (note that no taxes were paid throughout the year from his bank dividends, SSI, etc). Is there something I'm missing (ie, you don't pay taxes if your taxable income is less than a certain dollar amount?

Thanks for sending that information (great info)! I also just found the worksheet for the qualified dividends and see how it came to $0 taxes on taxable income... crazy that someone came up with that formula (ha ha)!
