When I tried to enter the 1099-R which was from my x-husband's military retirement for Former Spouse, the questions did not seem to apply but seemed to indicate the distribution was related to MY retirement, which is not the case.

First, see if the return rejects as it may due to having the 1099R reported as a W-2.
This would be great if it does, as then you will correct it and then e-file it again.
If it does get processed, then wait for the refund and keep refund. Then you would file an amended return.
The 1099R would be reported as follows:
To enter pension and annuity Payments (1099-R)
If amended needed see below:
