Taxable social security income is on line 20b of Form 1040, and line 14b of Form 1040A.

The amount on line 20 of the Social Security worksheet is $15,160 and the amount carried over to 14b on 1040A is $19, 137. Shouldn't they be the same amount? I can't come up with where the difference comes from.

Without being able to look at your return in this public forum, I can't be sure as to the difference. However, a possibility could be due to the fact that Form 1040A is missing lines like business income and losses and capital gains and losses. If there is a loss on either of these lines your total income would be higher and your taxable social security income would be higher on the 1040A because it would be missing the deductible losses.

No business income. We did cash in a life insurance policy and $4678 of it is taxable, but that is listed on line 3 of the Social Security work sheet.
