University of Missouri Retirement Income

Is the pension plan from the University of Missouri taxable in the state of Missouri.  Is this a public or private plan.  My research shows it is a public plan but I am not able to completely understand the tax consequence.

Yes, the University of Missouri pension is a public pension. The tax consequence is that public pensions qualify for pension exemption on the MO tax return, while private do not. That's why it's important to know. Please look at this chart, what pensions qualify or not.

Yes University of Missouri pension is a public pension.  A possibly misleading statement was made about private pensions.  Please note that Missouri also gives tax relief for private pensions on Form MO-A Part 3 Section B, but the income limits for the private-pension benefits are not as favorable at those for public.  Military (public) pensions get the most favorable treatment on Form MO-A Part 3 section D.
