RMD ISSUES

If one of your Form 1099-Rs is not triggering your RMD prompts, you have two options. You can either use your other distribution totals to satisfy all of your RMD requirements, or you can delete the Form 1099-R that is not triggering your RMD prompts to do a reset.

If you are unable to access the RMD questions through one of your Form 1099-R entries and your other distributions are enough to satisfy your entire RMD, do the following:

Option 1:

To input your Form 1099-R distributions, including the RMDs using your other accounts (if total distribution was enough to cover RMD), do the following:

  1. Go to Wages & Income and enter the first Form 1099-R (Gross distribution, etc.) in IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
  2. Next, when you reach, "Let's get more information about your RMD", enter the total toward the RMD amount, Continue
  3. Next, select, The entire distribution (or some of the distribution) applied to the December 31, 2025 RMDContinue
  4. Do this with each of your accounts (if one does not cover your total RMD)
  5. Next, in the Review your 1099-R summaryContinue (not the pencil)
  6. Continue answering the questions
  7. Next, when you see "Let's go over any required minimum distributions (RMD), select Continue (not the pencil)

Note: If you are asked, "Did you miss an RMD?", select "No".

Option 2:

If your other account distributions were not enough to satisfy your entire RMD and the RMD prompts are not populating, you can delete that specific form and re-enter it.

  1. Go to Wages & Income, IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click Review
  2. Click on the trash can next to the Form 1099-R entry that did not ask about your RMD
  3. Click outside of the Wages & Income (e.g. click on Deductions & Credits on the left panel
  4. Return to Wages & Income, IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
  5. Follow Steps 1-7 above
