How is Social Security Income treated by the IRS?

I get a Social Security check and it's my only source of income. Is this taxed by the IRS?

How is Social Security Income treated by the IRS?

There is a formula by which the IRS determines how much of the Social Security is taxable. It depends on how much outside income you have. It will vary from 0% to 85%.

I would encourage you to use this IRS Interactive Tax Assistant to see how much of your Social Security (if any) is taxable.
