Forms 1099-R report distributions from retirement accounts. There is no Form 1099-R issued for a distribution that never happened.
Thanks, I thought so...but didn't want to chance it with the IRS.
I did not receive rmd distribution for 2020. In filing taxes with turbo tax do I leave this information blank?
If you received a 1099R and you are over the age of 70 1/2 you will be asked if all, some or none of the distribution was RMD. You will answer the question and the interview will continue based on your answer. Even if COVID rules apply you will indicate any RMD taken.
If you did not get any retirement distributions, you will not receive a Form1099R.
If you are not age 70 1/2 in 2020, you will not be asked the RMD question.
I'm young and have an inherited IRA. I did not take an RMD in 2020 and did not receive a 1099R. Do I just not do anything on my taxes or do I have to show that I did not take the RMD due to the CARES act? Thank you.
No, if you did not take any moneys out and also did not take an RMD in 2020, you have no "taxable event" to report to the IRS with respect to the IRA. You're all set for that topic this year.
Thank you very much
