  I am the beneficiary of a death gratuity and unpaid pay and allowances for my son, a government employee, who recently passed away. There was nothing withheld. What is my tax liability?

Ask the issuer what tax forms will be issued next January and how much of the distribution will be taxable ... until you know that you cannot estimate how much tax you will pay on it.
