Did you go through the Retirement income section of the program?
If you had a Covid-19 related distribution in 2020 and selected to spread the distribution over 3 years -
Answer No when asked if you received a Form 1099-R in 2021, if you did not receive the form
Answer Yes when asked if you took a disaster distribution
Answer Yes when asked if you took a Qualified 2020 Disaster Distribution
Check the box that this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020
2020 Form 8915E, line 4, column b - Enter a 0
If the 2020 distribution was from an account that was Not an IRA
2020 Form 8915E Line 9 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 9
If the 2020 distribution was from an IRA account
2020 Form 8915E Line 17 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 17
The 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution will be entered on the 2021 Form 1040 Line 4b if from an IRA or on Line 5b if from a retirement plan other than an IRA
Why enter a 0 for Line 4 B?
Why do we enter 1/3 of the amount from the forms? Turbotax doesn't as for us to do that, they just say to enter the amounts from the 8915-E form and doesn't mention entering 1/3 of the amount. Figured that was all done by their system, it did take them months to get this form ready so I would hope this is built in
I did it through TurboTax but it kept asking me for a FEMA name even tho it was Covid. It also didn’t change what I owed. Then once I filed I looked at the paperwork and it specifically says on the 8915F to not fill in C but to check off D if it’s Covid. So I have no idea why TurboTax wouldn’t allow that. Hopefully it doesn’t matter because the amount in line 15 is correct. Anyone having the same issue?
I am seeing the same thing with the FEMA name error. I have no idea what to do. I just want my taxes to be done!

Another user posted they just clicked on the spacebar when the cursor was in the name box and then just continued on without a problem.
I submitted it anyway. It shouldn’t matter and I’m sure I won’t be the only one who wrote Covid-19 for the FEMA name smh
Yes. I wouldn't let me file until I put 0 in Advanced Credits, and
'coronavirus' in the disaster name. So I did and filed it that way.
I doubt the filing will be adversely affected for doing that.
When they did that, does their actual tax forms show box D checked off? Mine doesn’t
Yeah same here. I submitted it anyway. As long as the amount you’re claiming is correct it shouldn’t matter right lol at least I hope not
Are we sure it's 0? Because the line says a ## based on the tax return, last year.
Im holding off filing until we get some more details on this.
I opted to repay this tax over three years but I don't have have a 8915E form on my 2020 tax return in TurboTax. Any suggestions?
It depends. You may have unknowingly paid for the entire distribution and not realize it. Check your 2020 1040 form to see if there is a difference between Boxes 4A & 4B if an IRA distribution or Boxes 5A & 5B if a 401K distribution. If no difference, then you may have been taxed for the entire distribution and not realize it.
There should be a 8915-E form if this was done correctly in your 2020 return.
@Dorknut
what if there is nothing in my 2020 1040 4a -4b or 5a-5b sections and I don't have a 8915-e?
