Qualified Charitable Distributions

I am over 70 1/2 years old.

If I make a QCD from my IRA by writing a check from that (Schwab) account to qualified charity can Turbo Tax reduce the taxable amount or must the check be sent by the trustee?

It depends on whether the check from you account is considered "made by the IRA trustee". Check with your IRA trustee to be sure about the rules for your particular checking account arrangement.
