Qualified Business Income

Both my wife and I work in sales for a large company.  And this year is the first time Turbo Tax has shown us something called Qualified Business Income.  I don't think we can use it to write off home office supplies, like paper, toner, etc.  We are not in business for ourselves, so we are curious as to why it appeared this year.

No, it is not available on W-2 income. You may have had a REIT or another type of investment that qualified.
