On Feb. 3rd we received an email stating that TurboTax had received the W-2 from a past employer. that she had retired in 2017. Please explain

Ok ... TT did not actually receive anything ... all TT knew is where the spouse worked the previous year and when that employer made the W2 available online she got a courtesy email ... TT does not know if a W-2 from that employer is actually available but you can check and see since the last pay period for 2017 may have not been paid until 2018.
