My Employer Withheld too Much Social Security on My W2: Can I still File with TurboTax?

My question is in the subject. I file every year with TurboTax but this year my employer withheld too much social security tax (box 3: $6,240 and box 4: $446.40 - overpayment of around $59). According to what I have found I can still file with TurboTax as long as I follow these steps:

Correct the overpayment in box 4 to be the correct amount (6.2% of 6240).

Then, I submit my tax return with TurboTax.

Then, I mail in form 843 on my own.

Is this correct? Do I just need to edit the amounts to be 6.2% even though it shows differently on my copy of my W2? I'm just concerned that I would be committing fraud or doing something illegal by submitting numbers that are different from the physical document.

You are correct.

You can change the amount in box 4 to be 6.2% of box 3, this is not illegal. You then claim the overpayment on form 843.

Remember to attach a copy of your form W-2 to form 843.
