First, please contact your employer/payer to find out whether they will send the form and when. There are close to 2 dozen 1099 forms, each with its
own 1-4 letter suffix, so if you aren't sure you can ask the employer/payer what type of form they will be sending.
For example: Form 1099-INT reports interest, 1099-R is for retirement income, 1099-G represents government payments, and 1099-MISC is for non-wage (miscellaneous) income. There is no such thing as a plain old 1099 form (that is, one without a suffix).
