Im trying to input my employment compensation (1099-G). DUring the filing process, it asked what type of payment was reported on this 1099-G and I don't see unemployment

the options it gives are: taxable grant, agricultral program payment, market gain on CCC loans, reemployment trade Adjustment assistance payment, business or farm tax refund

To enter unemployment compensation

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Unemployment
  • On Unemployment and Paid Family Leave, click the start or update button

Or enter unemployment in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to unemployment

If it’s asking why you got a 1099G you are in the wrong place.  Delete out of this one.

You can  type  unemployment   into the search box at the top of your return and hit find.  It should give you a Jump To link to take you right to it.

Or Enter a 1099G for unemployment under

Federal on left

Wages & Income at top

Unemployment - Click the Start or Update Button

There is another area that the unemployment earnings will go on. Next page.

But I have another question.  In 2020 the unemployment earning would funnel to the schedule 1 and there was an allowance of $10,200 that left the balance taxable.  Are the 2021 unemployment monies  does not have an allowance so the entire payment is being taxable.  Is this correct?  This is not logical since part of the monies was pua.  Why not have the same condition as 2020?

The $10,200 unemployment compensation exclusion from income on a federal tax return was Only for tax year 2020.  For tax year 2021 unemployment compensation is entered as taxable income on a federal tax return.
