In general, your parent would be required to file their own tax return for taxable income in their own name, even if they are your dependent. However, if their only income is social security plus a $1000 prize, it is less than the threshold and they don't have to file a federal return. You would have to check your state to see if a state return is required.

As @Opus17 stated in general terms it will most likely not even be taxable if that is their only income for the year including social security. Be sure to report from their 1099-SSA, for social security benefits even if you believe they are not taxable.
