Since you the proceeds of the HELOC were used to "buy" your ex's share of the property, I would say the interest is deductible as it was used to purchase your home.

Since you the proceeds of the HELOC were used to "buy" your ex's share of the property, I would say the interest is deductible as it was used to purchase your home.
