I was in transit moving across the country (CA to VA) when I took a distribution from my retirement account. Which state gets to claim the retirement distribution?

My lease in CA was up and I hadn't purchased my house in VA yet.

In your part year returns, you are going to enter a date that you moved from one state to the other. If your distribution was before that date, it would be CA. If after, then VA.
