I want to file my SSA-1099-SM in order to receive my stimulus check for 2020

I was told I have to file to get my check..can you help me do this correctly

No, social security recipients do not need to file a tax return in order to receive a stimulus check. The IRS will use the information on your Form SSA-1099-SM to generate your stimulus payment. Please view this IRS link for more information.

you may have been told that as the IRS has flip flopped on this issue over the last week. Yesterday, they clarified that is it NOT necessary to file a simple return.
