I paid too much in Social Security tax on my 2015 Tax Return. Both me and my wife had a social security withheld. How do I request the excess social security back?
I discovered that I had paid to much when I redid my 2015 Tax Return using Turbo Tax.

Why do you think you paid too much SS tax. Were you self-employed? Or W-2 employees? If you are a W-2 employee, your maximum social security tax (box 4 of your W-2) is $7347 for 2015. However, if you and your wife's W-2s are both under $7347, but you mistakenly assigned them to the same spouse, turbotax may think you paid more than $7347 and think you need a refund. But this is false, the $7347 limit is per person, not per couple.

It sounds like a bug in Turbo Tax if the limit is per person and not per couple.

When you enter a W-2 into a married filing joint return, you have to click a button that says it belongs to you or your spouse. Turbotax can't help it if you click the wrong button and assign the W-2 to the wrong spouse. (The same thing is true for 1099-MISC, 1099-SA, 1099-R, and other income forms.)

and if your employer(s) over-withhheld. it is them that you have to look to for a refund.
