Retirement tax questions
Why do you think you paid too much SS tax. Were you self-employed? Or W-2 employees? If you are a W-2 employee, your maximum social security tax (box 4 of your W-2) is $7347 for 2015. However, if you and your wife's W-2s are both under $7347, but you mistakenly assigned them to the same spouse, turbotax may think you paid more than $7347 and think you need a refund. But this is false, the $7347 limit is per person, not per couple.
