I'm stuck in a loop with the charitable contributions. My contributions exceeded $300, so first I entered the total. It says, "too much." It says the same for $300. Help!

It keeps asking me to check my answer for charitable contributions--says it has an "unacceptable value."

This was a known error that has been corrected.

To enter the Charitable Contributions into Turbo Tax, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Deductions and Credits at the top of page.
  2. Select Review/Edit.
  3. Click Edit to the right of Standard Deduction, click OK.
  4. Click Wrap Up Tax Breaks.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Make sure that amount is filled in and then click Continue.
  7. Click Let’s Keep Going.

If there is any issues, use the following workaround:

In TurboTax select Federal on left side panel.

  1. Select Deductions & Credits at the top of the page.
  2. Under Your Tax Breaks Scroll down to Charitable Donations
  3. Click START to the right of Donations to Charity in 2020.
  4. Answer YES.
  5. Click ADD next to Money.
  6. Type in the name of the charity that you donated to.
  7. Type the amount of the donation.
  8. Select Done with Donation.
  9. Select Done.

The deduction will appear on Line 10B and in the Charitable Contributions screen.
