I'm a retiree who earned $ as an independent consultant in 2017 without contributing to a retirement plan. Am I "covered by a retirement plan at work"

TurboTax asked "are you covered by a retirement plan at work."  For the money earned in 2017, I was not. But I am receiving a pension for prior years' work.  Am I considered "covered by a retirement plan" for the purpose of setting up an IRA contribution?

No, you are NOT covered by a retirement plan at work if you are only collecting a pension for a plan earned in a prior year.

Now if they paid you one paycheck (W-2 income) during the tax year and you were covered by the pension, then you are, "covered by a retirement plan at work."
