Do I need to file a final tax return if my company is closed?

You are required to file a final return for the year you close your business. If you didn't check the Final Return box on your previous year form 1120-S, you should either file an amended return to indicate that, or file a zero information return for this year indicating that it is your last year in business.

Then you should send a letter to the IRS notifying them the business is closed as stated in this IRS notice Steps to close business :
