You receive a form 1099_R for tax year 2021 even if you only receive one month of pension in 2021.

You have to enter that form 1099-R on your tax return.

You can enter your form 1099-R by following these steps:

  1. In TurboTax, open your tax return
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Wages & Income on top of the screen
  3. Scroll down and locate the section Retirement Plans and Social Security and click on Show more
  4. Click Start next to IRAs, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

Even though today is in 2022, we are doing 2021 tax return now, so you must claim it.

@bbboy2020- The tax returns everyone is working on are for tax year 2021.   All of the income you received in 2021 has to be entered on your 2021 return.   All 2021 W-2's, all 2021 1099's of any sort, etc. etc. etc.
