My understanding is that I have until the tax filing deadline (Apr 15, 2025) to make HSA contributions for 2024. However, I'm only on a health plan with HSA/HDHP until December 31st, 2024.
Will I have any penalties or excess contribution if I make an HSA contribution in Feb 2025 but designate it for 2024 tax year?

What counts is your total eligible contribution limit, not when they are made. For example, if you are covered by a single HD HP and you are under age 55, your limit is $4150 for 2024. You can contribute up to $4150 for tax year 2024, even if some of those contributions are made in 2025 (as long as they are properly designated for 2024).
