How to report INT and DIV on TOD

My mom passed away at the end of 2024. I am the beneficiary of a TOD brokerage account.  (It took about 3 1/2 months to transfer the account to my name.)

During that period, dividends and interest were paid. I received a 1099-Div and INT in my mother's name with her social security number from the broker. How do I report this on my 2025 taxes in Turbo tax? Do I need to fill out any forms saying this was her account but I am now the owner?

Is there a comment or note area in Turbo tax that this is being reported by me as the 1099 I received has my mom’s name and social security number on it?

How to report INT and DIV on TOD

Yes, here is how you will enter the information into TurboTax.

  1. Enter the 1099's exactly as it appears: Go to the Federal Wages & Income section. Enter the 1099-INT or 1099-DIV exactly as printed, using your mother’s name and the financial institution's info.
  2. After you enter the form, TurboTax will ask a series of "uncommon situations" questions.
  3. Look for a box that says "I received a 1099-INT [or DIV] for someone else" or "Nominee distribution."
  4. TurboTax will prompt you to enter the amount of interest or dividends that actually belongs to you. The software will then subtract that amount from the total on your mother's final return (if you are filing one for her) or effectively shift the liability.

On behalf of TurboTax and myself, we would like to offer our sincere condolences for your loss.
