How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

What I did with this is added the 1099 r so I would be taxed the excess in 2018. I get an e-file error as noted below on the summary w2 sheets only. Just override the numbers so you do not have the over amount. This clears the error. These sheets are just summary sheets and do not get e-filed. The w2 stays the same as originally input with the over contribution which is part of the E-file.

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

For NY state tax, if I use turbotax, I couldn't even print and mail. Turbotax, please fix it!

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

@chenhua00 - Sure you could.   NY allows mail file if the software you are using does not allow e-file and in this case it does not.

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

I tried the suggestion from tomf60. It did not work; Turbotax flagged this as incorrect and readjusted the number to match the W-2.

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

The fix is not in, we still have to file by mail. Is turbotax planning to fix this?

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

If turbotax doesn't fix this, I'd like a refund so that I can file via HR Block. How can I ask for a refund?

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

This is a very common issue. Why TT can't fix it but requires efile? It's really disappointing.

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

Just announced:  An update currently planned for April 12th, 2019 will resolve the issue of a looping interview preventing e-file.  You may still see a warning of excess contribution, but e-file will be available.

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

HR block just worked for me .... no major release to fix the problem. I would recommend everybody to use it. TT announced the same fix 1 week ago. Do you really want to wait 2 days before filling ?

@macuser_22 where is the announcement? An update from my side: I spent 2 hours with support trying to troubleshoot as I called them to ask for a refund. they refused to refund me and I'm now disputing the charge with my credit card.

How to report excess deferral (401k over contribution) in 2018 without a 1099R?

Not cool at all. I certainly would have waited to e-file if they had posted this earlier (even in vague terms) instead of saying that you HAD to paper file because there's no fix.
