Hello,
I am filing my 2024 tax return in TurboTax and need help with my Ohio state return.
Here is my situation:
I had e-filed a federal extension (Form 4868) back in April using a different tax software (FreeTaxUSA).
I made a $0 payment with that extension.
My goal is to have TurboTax correctly check (X) the "Federal extension filers - check here" line on my Ohio Form IT 1040, as shown in the image below.
In the past, as shown in my 2023 state return screenshot image above, I've been able to trigger this in a different tax software (TaxSlayer) by entering the payment amount that I had made during the extension ($1), but I'm not sure how to do it for a $0 payment made with the extension.
Could you please provide the specific steps in TurboTax to report a previously filed federal extension for the purpose of showing extension in the state return (like the screenshot above)?
Thank you!
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Enter $1 as you used to do, putting $! on Schedule 3 Line 10; that should take care of your state extension checkbox.
Then before filing, you have to go back and set it from $1 to -0-.

That's my suggestion, there may be an easier way.
