How do I get 1040 box 4a to show a value with turbotax online? After entering all info from my 1099-R, box 4a on my 1040 is blank and only box 4b has something in it.

all fields were entered in the 1099-R form so why isn't the amount showing up where it should on the 1040?

If the entire IRA distribution is taxable, it's correct that it appears only on line 4b and line 4a is left blank.  This is per the IRS instructions for Form 1040 lines 4a and 4b.
