How do I enter that i moved my Roth 401K from my previous employer to my new employer's Roth 401K plan?

When I input the information from my 1099-R, it only asks if the Roth 401K was rolled over to a Traditional IRA or Roth IRA. It's counting it as income and I don't see where I can show that it was moved into my current employers plan.

To clarify, what distribution code is shown in box 7? Is it a Code G?

I received 2 1099-R from the same company. 1 had code G and the other had code BG.

The code G indicates that it is a rollover and the code B indicates that it is a Roth account. You will want to make sure that you enter both codes when entering the 1099-R. It seems as if you only have the Code G in there. To do this:

  1. Go into the Federal > Income & Expenses > Retirement Plans & Social Security > IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) section.
  2. Click Review next to the 1099-R that has the Code BG
  3. Under the entry for Box 7, click the box that says I have more than one value in Box 7 and enter the other code.

Once you have both codes in, TurboTax will know it was a rollover from a Roth account and it should not ask if it is going to a traditional or Roth IRA.

Yes the one with the BG did not ask. The one that only has the G on it asked. I think that one is a Traditional 401K from the employer’s contribution match.

How do I enter that i moved my Roth 401K from my previous employer to my new employer's Roth 401K plan?

Yes, if you have moved funds from the traditional 401k to Roth 401k (1099-R with code G) then TurboTax will ask follow-up questions, please answer them carefully.

You will answer "yes" to "Did you move this money from a 401(k) to a Roth 401(k)?" Please be aware, this conversion will be taxable.

Yes, the code BG won't trigger these questions since TurboTax has all the information needed in regards to this transaction.

The Roth should have gone to the Roth and the employer contribution should have gone into  the traditional.

If the funds went from the traditional 401k to the traditional 401k at your new employer then you will answer “No” to "Did you move this money from a 401(k) to a Roth 401(k)?" and "No" to the question if it was moved to a Roth IRA and then TurboTax will know that it was moved from a traditional 401k to traditional 401k.

Code BG is only permitted to be used to indicate movement of one designated Roth account to another, so TurboTax has no need ask what you did with the money when entering this Form 1099-R.
