How do I enter my Certain Government Payments 1099-G form?

Form 1099-G is used to report a variety of government payments including unemployment compensation, paid family leave, state and local tax refunds, agricultural program payments, taxable grants, reemployment trade adjustment assistance (RTAA), market gain on CCC loans, and business or farm tax refund.

If your 1099-G reports Unemployment or Paid Family Leave (PFL):

  • Continue your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click Tax Tools (lower left of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the I'm looking for: box, type unemployment.
  • In the results box, highlight unemployment compensation, then click GO.
  • You'll land on Unemployment (and Paid Family Leave). Follow the onscreen instructions to complete this section.

If your 1099-G reports a state or local tax refund or other government payment (not unemployment of PFL):

  • Continue your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click Tax Tools (lower left of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the I'm looking for: box, type 1099-g.
  • In the results box, highlight 1099-g, then click GO.
  • You'll land on Did you have any of these types of income? Follow the onscreen instructions to complete this section.
